Linux iwconfig mode and iwconfig key’s.

What is iwconfig it’s a wireless network interfaces for the Linux operating system for configuring the interface parameter settings on a network. This is nearly the same as ifconfig 8 but this iwconfig wireless is not for lan networks, only Wireless Application Protocol (commonly called WAP).
To start iwconfig access go to the open a terminal Linux window and then type : iwconfig this will the display the iwconfig settings parameters wireless statistics. To see the full view of all the iwconfig commands information type : man iwconfig there are a couple of extra ones that don’t always show up for the people that are trying to get around no follow, how ever but still accessible.
  • iwconfig wlan0 enc key : Sets scrambling keys the WEP encryption key in hex digits as XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX or XXXXXXXX. iwconfig eth0 key s:password [2],iwconfig eth0 key [2],iwconfig eth0 key open, iwconfig eth0 key off.
  • iwconfig wlan0 mode managed: configures the mode to managed for of multiple roaming Access Points.
  • iwconfig eth0 mode Ad-Hoc: is master backup mirror.
  • iwconfig wlan0 enc channel 7: Sets the network card to output on the 7th channel.
  • iwconfig essid driveon: controls the ESSID/SSID settings of driveon
If you you live in a place with numeruos other Wireless nodes, with high output antenna yogi aerials proving great distance communicationat a high power, its best to incoperat the RTS handshaking attribute. iwconfig wlan0 rts 64 -iwconfig wlan0 frag 256 This will change the packet transfer size.
